Kia Motors Corp. (KSE:000270), South Korea's second-largest carmaker, beat out Japanese rival Toyota Motor Corp. (TSE:7203) in February sales of mid-size crossover utility vehicles (CUV) in the U.S. market, according to industry reports Thursday.
U.S. sales of Kia's Sorento R, production of which began in November at the automaker's Georgia plant, reached 8,207 units in February, according to WARD's, a U.S. provider of auto data and analysis.
The figure put Sorento in second place in the mid-size CUV market, one notch higher than January. Toyota's RAV4, the second-most popular CUV in January, slipped to the fifth spot with 6,799 units sold in February.
