South Korea’s Hyundai Motor Co., which is the largest automaker with operations in Orange County, might be looking to build its third North American plant in Mexico.
Fountain Valley-based Hyundai Motor America Inc. is narrowing its choices for a plant, possibly in the Mexican gulf state of Veracruz, according to Santa Monica auto Web site Edmunds.com Inc.
The automotive site reported this week that officials from Promexico, a government agency that promotes exports and foreign investments, have disclosed that negotiations with Hyundai are in progress.
The new plant could produce the new compact Hyundai Accent and Kia Motors America Inc.’s Rio in 2013.
