It is with great sadness to hear of the great loss of life & property in the Victorian bush fires(50 persons as of 5pm today) Hopefully none are our fellow sorento members...M
I have seen this on CNN and HNN and it looks really bad. My family is praying for everyone there who is or has been affective by this tragedy.
As of this morning(Mon9th) the death toll has now reached 108 and is expected to go higher, property losses (homes, busness's ,farms) are up near 1000, whole townships have just been vaporised.
We recieved a phone call very early today from a good dog show friend who was caught up in one of the fires she is ok but her ex-husband(was not with her) is missing , she also lost many of her dogs...we have since arranged for her and the remaining dogs to stay with friends down there.she told us there was so little time to do anything as the fire traveled over a k/m in around a minuite and just boiled their water supply dry in the same time.
Our thoughts & prayers go out to everyone who has been caught up in what is now being called "Australia's worst natural distaster "
Really sorry to hear what is happening. Good luck and stay safe. Keep us updated.
My thoughts & prayers are with all you Aussies.  I got family in the outer areas of Melbourne & I'm getting pretty worried.  The death toll just keeps rising.

I've been trying to get a handle on where exactly the fires are, but I just get general locations from the international media.  I found a map here: Fire Incident Locations
Just wondering if it's accurate.
That should be fairly accurate KSpec. It's from one of our government authorities. Hope your family is well and all our other Victorian members are safe. I'm sure all of our thoughts are out there for those who have lost property and loved ones, and hopefully the death toll won't rise too much more.
For the people who want to be up dated on these fires (tues10th)..the toll has got up to the 170 mark and they expect it to go over 200+ ,there is over 5000 homeless not just displaced ,they have nothing to return to.
We have had some realy bad fires in the past in different parts of Australia (have been through one)but this has to be the worst. The lower part of Aust has been suffering from weeks of extremely high hot dry conditions(ironicly the northen parts of Aust are in flood)This combined with a strong change in the winds has resulted in what we now know to be a fire storm. To put that into perspective,we have been reconnected(sat phone)to a friend who lived through the fire(4 others didn't) she has a fairly new house with a steel fence around it (probably helped in saving the home)she said that they could see thick black smoke a long way in the distance,in the time it took her the go from one side of the house to the other the fire was upon them, she likened the flames& noise to standing behind a 747's engine at full thrust with blow torch like intencity, her car just blew up in flame and even the alloy wheels just turned to liquid.
they are just the lucky ones,Will keep you updated
