I'm planning to leave Sydney and head to Melbourne for a long weekend in July but not sure whether to leave to Sorie home with fuel prices rocketing over $1.70 or to take the plane. Is the road trip worth it or shall we just get in the plane?

Cheers,

Johnoz

I thought the same thing when I went to the Gold Coast last week, ended up taking the place...Cost us $88.00 AUD return with Jetstar and hired a car when we got there...Cheaper option is to fly and rent a car...

Saves you on petrol and wear and tear...
Once you factor in car rental to get around its not so cheap . Plus you miss out on the scenic drive down to melbourne thats half the fun
Hmmm, I'd say fly but if you do drive it down call in and get a photo with a southside Sorie!
Yeah, considering today's petrol prices, flying would be the better option but as Mat previously said you'd be missing out on the beautiful scenic drive. Feel tempted to take the long drive down to Mel though since I've never driven down there before plus get the opportunity for a photoshoot with Aussie down there Headbang
Lets us know if you come down, any excuse for a Beer2 and I'm in!!

Hi Aussie,

We've decided to take the drive down to Mel and hope to arrive on sat'day the 5th of July. We'll be staying in St. Kilda and return to Syd on Tuesday the 8th of July. Maybe if we have enough time we'd like to head down the great Ocean Road as well and take a look at the 12 Apostles. Am I correct that It'll take about 2 hrs. to get there?

Cheers,

Its about 250Klm's via the princess highway and takes approx 2.5 - 3.0 hours. If you take the winding route via the great ocean road, it can take up to 5 hours.

Its been a while since I've been down that way so things may have changed! I'd do a quick search online just to check!!

Cheers,

JC
